My Father’s Favorite Car was a Mercedes

7/18/2021

“Ma, I remember when we use to stand at the bus stations in Brooklyn (New York) in that scorching heat or the freezing cold waiting for a bus, and when it arrived it couldn’t hold any more people, so then we had to wait until another arrived. Sometimes there was standing room only, and you might fit if you could push yourself past people as you stepped onto the bus and stand kinda balancing yourself in the aisle, and we would fall if it weren’t for the other bodies holding us up.”

How do you walk like a lady

7/14/2021

Over the years people have occasionally complemented me on my posture, saying that I walk upright, daintily, and like a lady. Hmmmm!! That sounds like a good thing. Then, I see some women walk with extra twisting of their hips and I personally do not think that is very becoming. So, I have tended to walk without twisting my hips, and probably look stiff.

“sweat America, sweat…”

I sat in my car, eating the 2nd half of my banana, reflecting on my morning’s walk on the boardwalk.

For two days in a row, I’ve joined the ‘unofficial’ group that enjoys working out by running, walking, skateboarding, surfing, bike riding, or taking their dogs for an early morning walk, before the throngs of beachgoers arrive with their children and as many gadgets they can pile into their wagons to enjoy a day at the beach.

Comfort Corners not just for Kids

7/11/2021

Ever since I could remember, I have wanted a corner of my own, to sit and meditate on my Creator, and I finally have one! It also doubles as a Comfort Corner for me!! It is situated on my third floor and is between a window and my Mom’s bed just that small little space on the floor. Actually it triples as my Safe Space too!!!

Lessons from a Dog

July 10, 2021

If there is a dog in your family, this may sound familiar, and if there’s not, please visit your local animal shelter and adopt one, but only if you’re ready to take on this big responsibility and have your life change in the best of ways; and if you’re not ready, no worries, please enjoy my stories of The Bustey, who is my boxer-mix rescue born with a white and caramel coat, white eyelashes, and the shape of a heart on his back!

Every Summer has a Story

July 9, 2021

We’ve just past the first week in July, and it suddenly dawned on me, as I was walking in the park this morning, “THIS is Summer.” THIS is the time of year that many yearn for during the frigid months of winter, and it’s here! Before we know it, July will be over, and college students will be returning to school, families will be shopping for school supplies, and the warmth of Summer will begin to fade, and I often will feel sad.

To AVERAGE people, let’s talk…

Wednesday July 7, 2021

Since I’ve already confessed that I never knew mentoring was ‘a thing,’ I simply grew up like most people, doing all that is expected of us. I had a similar routine just like my neighbors’ kids and my cousins:

Mentoring is a ‘THING’

Sunday July 4, 2021

I guess I never knew that mentoring was ‘a thing.’ As I was growing up, I never heard of the term or saw it in action.

So, that is why my blog will be focused on my life without mentors. I am devoting this post to a little Mentoring 101 in order to create a basic understanding of the word and the significance of mentoring, the thing that I have not benefitted from but wished I had. And, I have two great resources for you.

Who’s the Pioneer in your Life?

I am head over heels in admiration of my Mom, because though she hasn’t always been there for me the way I thought she should, she has actually been silently setting great examples for me as a trailblazer/pioneer.

So far Mom has bought two homes in New York City and three in the state of Virginia while a single mom, worked in the laundry department of a hotel, and without more than a primary school education.
