So, where is the building, I keep wondering? I thought, maybe they had a setback financially or something related to permits that has slowed their plans. Oh well, I’m sure sooner or later, it will be built.

This morning as I rounded the corner and took a quick peek above the metal fencing, surrounding the perimeter of the lot, I was shocked! How come I didn’t see those concrete frames before? And, look, the pillars are all over the lot. Well, what do you know, I thought. They have been building!! I just couldn’t see the construction workers. Out of view, they were building the FOUNDATION!!
The foundation was being built for a couple of months now, probably. It was just that it was several yards below street level and not easily visible as we drove by. The intricate, complex base, that would support the six or eight floors of homes, to be occupied by families, was done. Now, we’re able to see evidence of that and soon we’ll begin to see the frame of one floor after another take shape. And, that could not have occurred if it were not for the FOUNDATION!!
I’m in awe of the complexities of structures as they go through the construction phase. Our traffic continues to increase in our cities, and there’s lots of expansion of our highways, including the bridges in our area. Guess what? The bridges are also under construction, as additional lanes are added. Of course, when I drive across the bridges, I’m amazed at the tall, cement pillars that seem to suddenly appear out of the water, extending upwards towards the skies.
As I drive by, I think of the great feat of the engineers who figure out how to get that done, starting way below the water, calculating and planning. Then, construction workers begin that work months before we will see those cement pillars appearing out of the water; and only then does the construction of the roadways follow. I imagine the millions of families that will cross over these bridges, placing their trust in those pillars for an uneventful and safe trip. That’s another example of how important the FOUNDATION of a structure is! And how about when tunnels get built??!!!

No less important is the FOUNDATION that you and I strive to create, before our careers and our lives take off. The foundation of anything that will succeed, often gets built behind the scenes, away from the view of most: in the quiet corner of a library, in our study space in our homes, at a cyber-cafe, under a tree in the park, or the number of other places we learn the basics; where we plan, where we dream. We’re creating foundations. This is the foundation that we bring to a mentoring relationship that will enable us to succeed. And we will continue to create foundations throughout our lives.
More to come…
